What To Expect From A Postpartum Doula
or Newborn Care Specialist
Overnight Support
Typically offered in 8, 10, or 12 hour visits.
Often referred to as a “night nurse”, “newborn nanny” or “baby nurse”, our team of professional overnight postpartum doulas and newborn care specialists provide support for you and your baby throughout the wee hours of the night and morning to ensure a restful and joyous transition after birth or adoption.
Your overnight doula or newborn care specialist can help with everything from your baby’s evening bath and bedtime routine, breast and bottle feeding support, pumping education and tips, newborn sleep education for healthy sleep, and hands-on care for your baby so you can get some extra sleep. If desired your doula is available to meet all your little one’s needs during night wakings, including burping, diaper changes, and soothing back to sleep. If you’re breastfeeding, a doula can support you through education, providing you snacks, and doing a light load of laundry while you feed your baby.
Daytime Support
Typically offered in visits ranging from 4 to 8 hours per day.
Let us match you with a highly trained postpartum doulas or newborn care specialist who can help you with everything you need to create a positive and encouraging first few months with your baby.
The ways in which a daytime doula or newborn care specialist can support you are endless and are customized during each visit. A doula’s services can include nurturing care of your baby so you can nap, shower, and eat a warm meal (with two hands!), along with nursing, pumping, and bottle feeding support. A daytime doula can provide evidence based education on baby care as well as hands-on newborn care tutorials with bathing, soothing techniques, diapering, and swaddling. Your doula is available to make sure you are also well cared for with light meal preparation, light household tidying, and grocery shopping, along with steadfast emotional support after birth. You stay in bed and bond with your baby, while your doula helps wash the bottle & pump parts, brings in the groceries and restocks the nursery.
The postpartum providers within our matching service are all fully vetted prior to being matched with clients. We personally interview each candidate, check personal & professional references, verify trainings and certifications, and conduct a thorough background check. As independent providers, they each set their own rates. You tell us your ideal care needs and budget and we’ll match you to an amazing doula to support you!
breastfeeding, newborn care, and bringing home baby classes are also available.
Happy Clients
“We will remain forever grateful for selecting Doulas of Orange County and most specifically, having our doula there for the precious first weeks of our daughter’s life. Not only did she give us peace of mind and confidence - and some serious sleep at night! - but she loved and cared for our daughter like no one else. Her loving attitude, charisma, candor and gracious ways assured us we were doing all the right things and made the daunting first night’s with a newborn more than achievable. We know having a postpartum doula is a luxury and are so glad we made the decision to welcome a doula into our home.”
“We are so incredibly thankful we found Doulas of OC! Being first time parents, we quickly learned just how hard it is to raise a newborn - especially when you have no family near by to help out. Doulas of Orange County helped us fill that void - serving as family when we needed it most. Between our two night time doulas, we were able to transition into parenthood a bit easier and work to get our baby on a schedule. We couldn’t have gotten through those first 8 weeks without them and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for some extra support - especially at night!”
