It all started with a desire to expand our knowledge and cultivate more community amongst doulas in our city and grew to include doulas around the world. Keeping our skills and minds sharp are crucial to this ever-changing landscape of birth & postpartum support… plus we love to read!
Join us for a virtual monthly book club where we explore a variety of topics, add to our knowledge, and hone our craft as birth workers. Topics will primarily be focused on pregnancy, birth, postpartum, parenting, and growing your business as a doula.
Yearly: commit to joining us each month from september 2019 to august 2020 - $165
Monthly: join as your time & energy allows - $15/month

Who is leading?
Lauren Foster, owner of Doulas of Orange County. With more than 11 years of doula experience, she understands the need to keep the fires of knowledge burning to better serve clients. In addition to her work as a birth & postpartum doula and pediatric sleep coach, she also has a background in teaching, curriculum building, workshop creation, and facilitating support groups. Lauren looks forward to connecting with doulas around the world through this exciting community.
How does it work?
Once registered you’ll receive a link to join our calls via Zoom from the comfort of your own home! By signing up for the yearly membership you’ll receive exclusive access to the monthly live calls, as well as recordings of past calls you may have missed. Each yearly member will also gain access to our Book Club for Doulas Facebook group where you’ll receive additional support from fellow doulas as well as encouragement from us.
Continuing education is such an essential part of any career and doula work is no different. Enhancing your knowledge while prove to serve your clients and your community and will keep your passion for this work burning bright.
Yearly membership also includes access to an online community. Members can join each month live and/or receive the recorded discussion after the fact.
Can I purchase a monthly membership and still join the Facebook Group?
The FB group is a perk for those who join as a yearly member as it is too labor intensive to continually add and delete monthly members from the online group. If you are experiencing financial struggles and can’t commit to the yearly membership, we do have limited scholarships available.
Can I submit a book suggestion?
Of course! Email us to suggest a book for a future month.
How do you choose the books?
Because our focus is on expanding our knowledge to serve our clients and community, a large portion of our books will cover the doula essentials. In addition to these staples we want to explore other branches of study that may add to your personal and professional path such as adoption, surrogacy, bereavement work, supporting marginalized communities, etc.
What if I’ve already read one of the books?
That’s ok! We recommend re-reading it with an open heart & mind, ready to absorb new information.
Why only one book per month?
We have busy lives and we know you do too! We want to keep things realistic while also working to challenge ourselves. This is the amount of commitment we can make without spreading ourselves to thin.
Why does this cost money?
We encourage all doulas to receive compensation for their knowledge and expertise and feel that should be modeled in various forms. This is more than a monthly call, this is a community. And the creation and maintenance of that community takes our time and energy. We feel that by committing to a financial exchange you are also more likely to show up and participate in the active discussion of the books.
What is the cost?
The exchange for these monthly gatherings is $15 per monthly drop-in or you may become a yearly member for $165 (a $15 savings). This does not include the cost of the books themselves. Limited scholarships are available.
