New Parent's Workshop: Improving Partner Communication

New Parent's Workshop: Improving Partner Communication

Having a baby adds many stressors to a relationship, and poor communication can exacerbate the problem. Additionally, even the most connected couples may feel like their relationship is being neglected in the first months (or even years!) of parenthood. This seminar was designed to help both prenatal and postpartum couples learn how to more effectively talk to each other by looking at each other’s personal communication styles.

  • Do you feel like your partner doesn’t listen to you?
  • Do you find yourself nagging, or feel like you are being nagged more than you used to?
  • Does it feel like there is more conflict since baby arrived?
  • Do your partner’s words or actions sometimes make you feel unappreciated?

This workshop will address these issues and more.

What You Will Get

  • Handout with PowerPoint slides of three part presentation on Listening, Conflict, and Communicating Love and Appreciation
  • Surveys for both parents to complete in class and take home on their individual communication styles
  • A Communication Competence Fridge Checklist
  • One-on-one and small group time with Erin to practice more effective communication skills first-hand

This is not a therapy session. This is a workshop designed to give you three of the most essential skills to increase happiness in your relationship.

To take this course at a local college, you would pay $276 for two people and would have to sit through a 16 week course. I have condensed the most valuable information from my Interpersonal Communication course into this parent workshop for a fraction of the cost; only $95 PER COUPLE!

Price: $95.00

Note: Newborns 0-3 months are welcome.

Price: $95, taught by Erin Harris, MA of Healthy Communicator

Registration required by July 28th. Space is limited. We highly recommend registering online to reserve your spot in class.

Balance After Baby is a postpartum support circle facilitated by therapist Lauren Deliberato, MA, PCCI in conjunction with Doulas of Orange County's WellMama series.

Sometimes motherhood brings moments of just surviving and once the fog lifts, you have a lot to process! Our intention in offering this monthly postpartum support group is to provide a place that moms can come to talk, process, write, unload and encourage. You are not alone. Motherhood is meant to be done with an entire circle of other moms around you. To keep topics relevant and relatable, the group is geared towards moms of young children, aged 0-5 years. This gathering is suitable for women that may be experiencing feelings of baby blues, postpartum depression, anxiety or simply just need a safe space to process of the emotions and transitions that motherhood brings.

Parenting for a Peaceful Community: Introduction to Nonviolent Parenting

Parenting for a Peaceful Community: Introduction to Nonviolent Parenting

The peace that is so desperately needed at this time in our society begins in the home. As parents, cultivating and maintaining authentic connection with our children throughout their childhoods will support the development of emotionally healthy and self-aware children, peaceful families, and ultimately a peaceful society. However maintaining this connection through the daily demands of family life in our fast past culture can be quite a challenge. Nonviolent Parenting shows us how to keep those doors of connection open no matter what, even through the challenges of setting limits and power struggles.

In this Introductory session, participants will be exposed to key concepts that include:

  • How to set limits and boundaries with your children while creating an environment of empathy, connection, and respect within the family

  • How to support children’s growing self-awareness and awareness of others
  • Ways to assist children in and expressing their own feelings and needs verbally as well as listening to the feelings and needs of others
  • Tools that encourage children to make their own positive choices and develop solutions to problems where everyone’s needs matter
  • How to develop self-empathy and release parental guilt and shame

  • How to cultivate emotional intelligence and problem solving in our children using the latest research in brain development

"Nonviolent (as in Gandhi's approach) Communication” (NVC) is an effective  model of communication developed by Marshall Rosenberg, which is used all over the world in schools, prisons, hospitals and many other places to support relationship based work. It offers proven tools and processes to support inclusion and active participation where the needs, feelings and values of each individual matter.

JUNE 23RD: 9AM-5:30PM

90 MINUTE BREAK FOR LUNCH (12:30-2PM)

Class Taught by Midwife and Spinning Babies approved Instructor, Nicole Morales.

We will focus on anatomy and its relationship to balance in pregnancy, labor, and birth. We will be looking at solution focused positioning when necessary and how to listen to labor patterns and recognize various possible challenges in regards to the different levels of the pelvis. Come and explore how you can support families in your own practice!

Understand the role of muscles and ligaments in preparation and progress in childbirth. Effects of posterior, solutions for transverse lie, and labor patterns when baby needs to rotate in the pelvis. Reduce unnecessary cesareans due to lack of progress in labor. Charge your practice with the new paradigm in childbirth by identifying where the baby is so you can:

  • Align the uterus so baby can curl and enter the pelvis as a small, compact – and more active participant.
  • Release tight ligaments or muscles which may pull or twist may relievepelvic pain now or discomfort during birth.
  • Open the pelvis to let baby move down during the birth process
